Riccardo Accorsi

Researcher and lecturer at the University of Bologna’s Department of Industrial Engineering since 2015, he teaches classes on Industrial Logistics and Production Systems Optimisation. His research fields lie in operations management with particular focus on the food industry. His efforts are for developing decision-support models and tools intended to the design, planning and optimisation of sustainable production and distribution systems for perishable items. Leading member of the Food & Wine Supply Chain Council (FWSCC), he was recipient of the 2018 Sustainability Young Investigator Award for the contribution to the advancement of food supply chain management as an important area in the field of sustainability. He has written numerous applied research papers on food supply chain operations and has been involved in many funded research projects and consulting for industry. So far, he served as Editor for the book Sustainable Food Supply Chains: Planning, Design, and Control through Interdisciplinary Methodologies published by Elsevier, and has been yet guest editor for the journal Sustainability.

Emilio Ferrari

Born in Bologna in 1962, he degrees in Mechanical engineering at the University of Bologna 1998. After a brief experience in the industrial sector of packaging, in 1990 he becomes Researcher in the scientific area of Industrial Plants at the University of Bologna. Since 1998 till 2000 he works at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia as Assistant Professor in Industrial Plants and Industrial Logistics. Since november 2000 he is Full Professor in Industrial Logistics at the Department of Mechanical Constructions (DIEM) of the University of Bologna.
Director of DIEM during 2007-2009. Vicechancellor of Alma Mater Studiorum during 2009-2015. Currently President of CINECA, a non profit Consortium for computing , made up of  53 Italian universities, the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics - OGS, the CNR (National Research Council), and the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR).
Since 2004 to 2007 Dean of the course degree in Management Engineering. Director of the Master degree in "Integrated logistics" at the Faculty of Engineering in Bologna. Director of the Summer School "F. Turco" on Industrial plants X e XI ed. 2005-06. Wide teaching experience about industrial plants, logistics and service plants at public or private corporations (PROFINGEST, COFIMP API Bologna and Modena, NEXT Padova, EFESO Bologna).

Luca Fontanesi

Luca Fontanesi

Full Professor of animal breeding and genetics at the University of Bologna. He works in the fields of animal genetics and breeding, animal genomics and authenticity of food products. His research interests are mainly towards the application of genomics, metagenomics, metabolomics and phenomics in the animal production sector, for food characterization, authentication and traceability and for environmental characterization. His research activities include all main livestock species (pig, cattle, sheep, goat, horse, donkey, rabbit, poultry) aquaculture species, wild and extinct animal species and insects and environmental DNA. He is involved in several national and international projects and has extensive collaborations with many research centres in Europe and throughout the world. He has published more than 190 peer reviewed scientific papers (h index = 29), several book chapters and a few patents. He is sector editor of several scientific journals in the animal science sector and he is member of university boards and national and international commissions and scientific societies.

Full professor of Industrial Engineering, professor of Logistics and Facility planning at the School of Engineering, Bologna University. The research interests and expertise: design, management, control and optimization of complex production systems. A special focus on storage and warehousing systems, logistics of perishable products, food supply chain, automation of production systems and Industry 4.0, maintenance engineering including predictive maintenance, physical distribution, packaging, environmental sustainability.
