Bologna

Bologna, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna, is a first-rank European cultural center famous for its towers and lengthy porticoes. Dating back to at least 1000 BC, it is a historical city with an extensive legacy of Etruscan, Celtic, and Roman cultural treasures. It was a free municipality in the Middle Ages and later on the part of the Papal States up to 1860. Nowadays, it is a modern metropolis with an infrastructure prepared to welcome more than a million visitors per year and home to world-renowned brands like Ducati, Lamborghini, Maserati, and other high-tech companies. Bologna is also home to other universities, such as the Bologna Centre of Johns Hopkins University.
