F.A.Q.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the conference take place in real life?
A majority of the conference will take place live, face-to-face.
For both the audience and the speakers, the panels, workshops, and labs are entirely face-to-face events.
The book presentations and the keynotes will be held in a mixed modality (online and in-person), but the presenters will be in person.
We plan to take all necessary security measures, and we believe that everyone will be able to attend. For more information, please visit the dedicated page on this website.
- When will the conference take place?
The conference will take place from May 17-19, 2022, at the DISCI department of the University of Bologna (see the schedule). The workshop Elites, Corruption, and the 'Defiance Industry' will also be held in the same classrooms on May 20, 2022, for those who wish to stay an extra day.
- Can I also be a speaker if I am a chair?
The chair is responsible for organizing the panel, keeping track of the time, and discussing papers when necessary. A chair is not a speaker, but a chair may also participate as a speaker by submitting an abstract to the panel they are interested in, including their own.
- Are there computers and projectors in the classrooms?
All classes will have a computer and a projector, and you will be able to upload your PowerPoint presentations using your removable USB drives.
- Is there WiFi in the classrooms?
Yes, you can connect to WiFi with Eduroam (see instructions).
Alternatively, a limited number of temporary credentials are available for accessing the university's WiFi network.
- Is there a cost associated with attending the conference?
The conference is cost-free, albeit a free online registration is required. Those wishing to attend the dinner will need to pay for it. We will not provide lunch, only breaks, and printed materials. To demonstrate the range of dining options available in Bologna, we have compiled a guide to restaurants within walking distance of the conference venue. A small reimbursement may be available to partially cover the travel expenses of young students without other income.
- Is it possible to issue an invitation letter or a certificate of participation?
Upon verification, a certificate of participation in the conference can be issued.
Regarding invitation letters, it depends on the letter's specifications. We cannot send proof of sponsorship or residency at our expense. We will not be responsible for your residence during the conference, your health care and other expenses, or legal liability arising from your immigration process. Therefore, we can only send letters proving your interest in coming to Bologna in connection with your participation in the conference.
