Keynote speakers

Marie-Aude Lefer is Associate Professor of Translation Studies at the University of Louvain, Belgium, where she teaches corpus-based translation studies and English-French translation. Her research interests include corpus-cased translation and crosslinguistic studies, empirical translation studies, contrastive linguistics and bilingual lexicography. 

She is the co-editor of the journal Languages in Contrast and co-directs the Multilingual Student Translation (MUST) project, a large, collaborative, multilingual corpus of student translations. She participated in several corpus collection initiatives at UCLouvain and the University of Bologna. 

Natalia Levshina is a language scientist and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in the consortium Language in Interaction. Her current research project focuses on the variation of causative constructions and causal connectives in typologically diverse languages.  

She is interested in the interplay of iconicity and frequency, as well as in communicative efficiency and how it manifests itself in language structure and use. She uses and teaches various multivariate statistical techniques, such as Bayesian multinomial models and exploratory methods. She is currently developing a multilingual parallel corpus of film subtitles and TED talks for typology (ParTy corpus).

Stella Neumann is Professor of English Linguistics at the RWTH Aachen University, Germany, in the Department of English, American and Romance Studies. Her research interests include contrastive linguistics, corpus-based translation studies, and systemic functional linguistics. 

She is part of the team of researchers involved in the TRICKLET project, aimed at exploring cognitive processes while translating specific features identified as displaying translation properties, through a combination of experimental and corpus-based methods. She is also a member of the editorial boards Translation and Multilingual Natural Language Processing and Functions of Language.
