CALL FOR PAPERS

International Workshop on

“New Trends in Environmental Economics and Policy”

October 8 and 9, 2026

Rimini Campus, University of Bologna

The global green transition is shaping a new model of economic growth, in which sustainable development emerges as a central driver redefining economies, governance structures, and regulatory frameworks. Private firms, as primary agents of innovation and value creation, face an imperative to adapt, restructure, and seize opportunities arising from these shifts. At the same time, public governance and the role of government must also be rethought to support a green economy amid fiscal constraints and emerging geopolitical tensions.

The Department of Economics of the University of Bologna is pleased to announce the International Workshop on “New Trends in Environmental Economics and Policy”, to be held on October 8–9, 2026, at the Rimini Campus.

The workshop aims to bring together scholars engaged in both theoretical and applied research to discuss recent advances in the analysis of the economic impacts of climate change and environmental policies. While rooted in environmental economics, the workshop welcomes contributions from a wide range of related fields within and beyond economics.

The scientific program will include plenary and parallel sessions featuring contributed papers selected through this Call for Papers.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • New growth models driven by green and digital transitions
  • The role of digital technologies (e.g., AI, machine learning, large language models, big data) in climate policy and  sustainable governance
  • Sustainable finance and green capital markets
  • Environmental standards in international trade
  • Renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure
  • Green innovation and consumer behavior
  • Green fiscal policies, incentives, and sustainable development across key economic sectors

Researchers working in these areas are invited to submit their papers for presentation. The workshop particularly encourages submissions from doctoral students, early-career researchers, and practitioners interested in advancing their understanding of climate change economics and policy. A dedicated poster session will feature contributions from graduate and Master’s students.
