How to get to Bologna
Check available flight connections to Bologna's airport (BLQ, https://www.bologna-airport.it/en/welcome-to-bologna-airport/?idC=62175).
Bologna's airport is connected to the main train station (Bologna Centrale) by the city train Marconi Express (https://www.marconiexpress.it/en/). You can buy tickets online or on site.
The airport is quite close to the city center: a taxi ride will cost around 25-30 euros.
Alternatively, you can fly to one of the major Italian airports and reach Bologna by train (Bologna Centrale). The Roma Fiumicino airport (FCO, https://www.adr.it/fiumicino) is particularly well connected by high-speed trains (journey time: 2 to 3 hours), either from the airport itself (Fiumicino station) or from Roma Termini station (you can reach Roma Termini by local train: Leonardo express https://www.trenitalia.com/en/services/leonardo-express.html). The airports of Milan and Venice are also relatively well connected.
Bologna is a hub for high-speed trains, operated by Trenitalia (https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html) or Italo (https://www.italotreno.com/en). A reservation is needed. You can buy tickets online by registering with a valid payment method.
International train connections with Austria, Germany and Switzerland are available.
Where to stay in Bologna
We did not reserve hotels in advance, as prices are highly variable and you may find a better deal through the usual booking platforms. There is a wide offer of B&Bs, besides hotels. Hotels close to the main station are convenient for the conference location, but if you are looking for the Bologna flair you may prefer to book your accommodation closer to Via Indipendenza, Via Ugo Bassi and Piazza Maggiore.
Bologna is a safe, lively town. The conference location can be easily reached on foot from all the main neighborhoods within the city center. Many buses stop in Via Guglielmo Marconi, just a few minutes away from the conference location. Most buses allow you to pay your fare on board with contactless cards.
