A Compass of Possibilities

"After publishing Aux quatre vents du monde (Seuil 2015), I felt the limits of the discursive form and it seemed necessary, in order to make "manifest" the choice of possible worlds, to use the analogy between the winds of the physical world and those of the mind. From the unlikely meeting of a lawyer and a plastic builder was born the idea of inscribing thought in matter by making a "manifest object" imagined by the artist, by combining the four elements of matter."

- Mireille Delmas-Marty & Antonio Benincà

The Wind Rose of globalization.

Schematic representation of the “rose des vents” at the base of the “Boussole des possibles” (‘Compass of Possibilities’), an object-manifesto materalialized by Antonio Benincà. It illustrates the “winds of globalization” composed by the main winds: security, competition, freedom and cooperation; and the “winds between the winds” (vents d’entre les vents) resulting from the intersection between the main winds, such as: exclusion, innovation, integration and conservation.
