Chiara Bucaria, University of Bologna

Chiara Bucaria is an Associate Professor of English Language and Translation at University of Bologna’s Department of Interpretation and Translation. Her research interests include audiovisual translation, humour studies, media paratexts, and the interconnection between audiovisual translation and the dynamics of audiovisual distribution and circulation at large. She has published extensively on AVT, humour and translation in the media. She has published the volume Dark Humour as a Culture Specific Phenomenon. A Study in Audiovisual Translation (2009) and co-edited the collections Between Text and Image. Updating Research in Screen Translation (2008), Non-Professional Interpreting and Translation in the Media (2015), and Taboo Comedy. Television and Controversial Humour (2016).

Rachele Antonini, University of Bologna

Rachele Antonini is Associate Professor of English Language and Translation at the Department of Interpreting and Translation of the University of Bologna. She received her Ph.D. in Sociolinguistics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2012. Her research interests include audiovisual translation, the sociolinguistics of the Irish language, non-professional interpreting and translation and child language brokering. She is the PI for the University of Bologna in the EYLBID project (an Erasmus + project led by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) on Child Language Brokering and the coordinator of NEW ABC: Networking the eEducational World – Across Boundaries for Community-building, an Horizon 2020 funded project. She has published extensively in volumes and journals and edited and co-edited four volumes on non-professional interpreting and translation and child language brokering. She is also a professional interpreter, translator and subtitler. 

Delia Chiaro, University of Bologna

Delia Chiaro is Professor of English Language and Translation at the University of Bologna’s Department of Interpretation and Translation. In the mid-1990s together with Rosa Maria Bollettieri Bosinelli, she kick started research on audio-visual translation in Forlì. A linguist and humour scholar with over 150 publications to her name, Delia has widely published on AVT and is especially interested on why dubbing is considered less prestigious than subtitling. Her latest book The Language of Jokes in the Digital Age (Routledge 2018) will soon be followed by Comedy in Political Language: How Politicians Use Humour (forthcoming with Cambridge University Press).
