Award rules
The “Gian Piero Spada Award” is rewarded annually during the conference day “NextGenCHEM - New Frontiers in Chemistry: Research by PhD Candidates” for Doctoral Candidates and PhD Students in Chemistry.
The term "Doctoral Candidates and PhD Students in Chemistry" refers to all doctoral candidates enrolled in the PhD programs associated with the Department of Chemistry "Giacomo Ciamician" (PhD in Chemistry and PhD Nanosciences), regardless of their affiliation, as well as doctoral candidates affiliated with this Department but enrolled in PhD programs not related to the Department of Chemistry "Giacomo Ciamician".
Contributions from PhD candidates of 38th cycle (3rd year completed) are automatically accepted for oral presentation, while contributions from 39th cycle students (second-year completed) will be selected by a dedicated committee. PhD candidates who have completed their first year (40th cycle) may only contribute to the poster session. Participation and poster presentation of the PhD students of the 41st cycle are welcome as well.
At the end of the conference day, the following awards will be assigned:
- Two “Gian Piero Spada Medal for the Best PhD Project” awards, (€ 300 each), reserved for PhD students enrolled in the 38th cycle who have delivered an oral presentation. These awards recognize achievements that have made a significant contribution to a field of Chemistry.
- One “Gian Piero Spada Award for the Best Oral Presentation” (€200), open to all PhD students who have given an oral presentation.
- One “Gian Piero Spada Award for the Best Poster” (€100), open to all PhD students who have presented a poster.
The evaluation of submissions and the selection of winners are carried out by dedicated Scientific Committees (one for each award) composed of the Coordinator of the PhD Course in Chemistry and five Commissioners. The Commissioners are selected annually from members of the Council of PhD Courses in Chemistry and Nanosciences and faculty from the Department of Chemistry "Giacomo Ciamician," ensuring representation across relevant thematic areas. A Individuals serving as supervisors of PhD candidates eligible for these awards cannot be appointed as Commissioners.
