Back to fundamentals of research
The ever-increasing sophistication and specialization of scientific research, and the resulting technological advances, have numerous and potentially unpredictable implications on people’s lives, making it especially urgent for academics to resume the reflections on the foundations of research, and examine them critically.
The potential impact of scientific knowledge on citizens and society raises the central question on how to ensure the quality, reliability and transparency of research activities: an issue that the University of Bologna has decided to actively explore in a series of three events dedicated to the pillars of good research:
- Reliability, Transparency and Reproducibility (already took place on May 20th)
- Interdisciplinarity (already took place on October 9th)
- Ethics and Academic Freedom (December 2nd)
The series of three events, which will take place over the course of 2024, is promoted by the University of Bologna's Pro-rector for Research.
Each meeting will result in a position paper summarising the key concepts that have emerged from the discussions at national and international level between representatives of the university and leading voices in the current scientific landscape on the subject, i.e. voices from institutions, such as research funding bodies, evaluation bodies and research organisations in general.
