Reliability, Transparency and Reproducibility
What does it mean to perform research responsibly? How can “good” research be identified? Can reproducibility of results be used as a reliable proxy for quality research, or should it be one of the available criteria for what we should trust?
We are pleased to announce the publication of the Position Paper related to the event "Back to Fundamentals of Research - Reliability, Transparency, and Reproducibility," which took place online and in-person on Monday, May 20th 2024.
The position paper provides a concise overview of the content discussed during the keynotes and roundtables and outlines the recommendations of the University of Bologna regarding three significant challenges addressed during the event:
- promoting the social value of research and trust in science;
- evaluating the quality of research while respecting the diversity of different knowledge fields;
- creating an ecosystem that supports the reliability, transparency, and reproducibility of research.
The Position Paper is available in our university repository and can be accessed at the following link: [https://amsacta.unibo.it/id/eprint/7803/].
We encourage everyone to share the document to foster an effective debate on these crucial issues at both national and international levels.
The meeting has fostered discussions on the ingredients of research methodology, and the ongoing debate around reproducibility of results, with the aim of understanding if and how such dimensions can be translated into evaluation criteria to assess the quality of knowledge generated through research.
When
The event took place online and in-person on Monday, May 20th 2024, at Aula Giorgio Prodi, from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
