Guided tour to the Specola Museum of Astronomy

30 June 2023 at 3:00 PM Meeting point: Specola of Palazzo Poggi, via Zamboni 33
€3,00 per person; Maximum number of participants: 15

Specola Museum of Astromony website: https://sma.unibo.it/en/the-university-museum-network/specola-museum-of-astronomy/specola-museum-of-astronomy

The Specola Tower was built to observe the movements of the planets and study astronomy. In its rooms, including the famous Meridian Room, we will see a wealth of instruments that were once used by astronomers, such as armillary spheres or wooden telescopes. At end of the tour we will climb up the fascinating spiral stairs of the Specola to have a 360° view of Bologna. We will let our eyes wander above the terracotta tiles of its roofs and through its churches, historical buildings, terraces and bell towers standing out from the green hills in the setting. *

If it rains unfortunately it will not be possible to climb up to the terrace, on the roof of the astronomical observatory (Torre della Specola) but we will be able to enjoy the view from the last floor of the tower, through the glass windows that surround the whole room.

* Please note that the climb up the Tower requires considerable physical effort: visitors should be aware that the staircase is made up of 272 steps. Admission is therefore not recommended for people suffering from heart conditions, dizziness and claustrophobia. For safety reasons, access to the Tower is not permitted to persons with reduced or impaired mobility.
