Overview of the course:
The course will provide participants with an overview of the strategies and tools used in public speaking in the context of the doctoral and professional experience in Italy and abroad of the three trainers - now professionally employed in the university world in various capacities.
The experiential approach adopted is intended to suggest methodologies and tactics of proven effectiveness and at the same time to make one reflect on the importance of continuous practice in public speaking, also in different working environments.
Learning objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will have acquired skills in techniques and tools that can be used to improve the quality and effectiveness of public speaking in academic and professional settings.
Course programme:
The course will cover the following topics:
- Overview of the variety of academic and professional contexts in which to apply public speaking approaches;
- Key principles of public speaking (text, paratext, proxemics, storytelling, etc.);
- Characteristics of verbal and non-verbal communication, exemplified through lived experiences in national and international academic and professional contexts, as well as through examples of effective public speaking;
- Articulation of content according to context, audience and purpose of communication;
- Exercise and practice of public speaking in different contexts, including less familiar ones;
- Tactics to improve communication effectiveness and foster audience engagement;
- Tools for sharing materials to foster multi-directional communication, feedback (e.g. Padlet, Slido, Flinga or Miro).
Mode of evaluation of results: group work with feedback in the classroom

Duration: 6 hours per edition, divided into two 3-hour lessons
