Public Speaking for Scientific Research

Aims:
The Public Speaking for Research workshop is aimed at PhD students with the aim of providing a basic knowledge of public presentation techniques for their research work. The workshop provides a reference context for identifying different audiences, analyzing what works and what doesn’t work in a public speech, and organizing the speech for better effectiveness. Part of the work will be done in a learn-by-doing format and participants will create a real personal presentation on which they will receive feedback.
Learning Objectives:
- Basic knowledge of Public Speaking techniques
- Development of relational skills and reading of the audience
- Organization of your presentation based on format, audience and occasion.
Program:
- Speaking in public: dos and donts; analysis of some relevant examples (2h);
- Do you know what you are working on (and who you are talking to)? A laboratory to identify strenghts and weaknesses (2h);
- Plenary discussion and feedback on all presentation by students (3h).
